The Children of the Marivelle Residential School

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission concluded what happened was cultural genocide. It identified more than 3,000 children who died from disease due to overcrowding, malnutrition and poor sanitation or died after being abused or trying to run away. Archaeologists say 35 unmarked graves have been discovered at the Muscaugan school in British Columbia. A further 751 unmarked graves were detected across from the former Marivelle residential school on the Cowes' Reserve in Saskatchewan. According to survivor accounts, children sometimes had to dig their classmates' graves.
