I think the big one here that unfortunately still happens a lot is bread going into the fridge. The refrigerator stales bread significantly faster than leaving it out on the counterwood. Getting them colder will actually prolong their shelf life and you'll get fewer of those rancid flavors. If you have them in your freezer, that is even a better place to go.
