Police Budgets Are Going Higher and Higher Like an L A

The mayor's original proposed budget for 20 21 had cuts to almost all ervices, but a sweet 7 % bump for the already enormous police budget. Why is police funding trending in the opposite direction of funding for everything else? Because on top of collecting revenue for cities, police also end up acting as a stop gap to replace disappearing social services. The more desperate people are, the more property owners need to be protected from them. And the poorer and more desperate people become, the more people tend to commit crimes to get by.
