The Bonaparte Brothers' First Political Patron

On June 5th, 1806, younger brother Louis Bonaparte became monarch of the new Kingdom of Holland. Napoleon's patience with the Batavian government had finally run out. He hoped that with Louis in charge, the instability and lack of legitimacy would become a thing of the past. The fortunes of the Bonaparte family were now explicitly tied to the fortunes of the state. And we saw how during Napoleon's absence from Paris in 1805, unscrupulous politicians seized opportunity to increase their own power.
