i know lots of analytic philosophers who don't write about historical materials, but none the less have a detailed knowledge of at least one historical figure. I think it's both a quirky thing about me and something that i would hapfuly recommend to others. A lot of very interesting metaphysics ina classical antiquity are a relevant to our understanding of perception. So, for example, aristotle's distinction between cenesus and anargy is still relevant today.
