Frida Ghitis: I've been doing quite a bit of reading from the energy humanities. One thing that really struck with me is that energy is not a neutral input. We see it purely as an input that then drives our economies or drives our societies, but it's not purely neutral. She says we're saturated with fossil fuels in a way; they are so deeply embedded in our lives. Ghitis: It's almost like it's difficult to imagine a world without this dependence. The dependence actually has gone so deep that as one person put it, it's sort of hiding in plain sight.
