A lot of our words for crucifixion actuly relate to later ecclesiastical latin. It can mean torture more generally as well, because crucifixion involves an element of sotof separate torture often. So it has perhaps wider meanings that i guess, get narrowed, particularly in later periods and particularly after the use of the word in particularly christian contexts ak.
