When many people think of appeasement, they think of chamberlain. That's appeasement is synonymous with chamberlain, and chamberlain was bad. I think that's probably an unfair reading. There are those who argue that what chamberlain was doing was buying us time to re arm and and prepare for war. But anyway, if chamberlain is synonymous with a weakness and appeasements is synonymous with weakness, the attitude is that you have to project strength.
