At the time, i thought it was brilliant. I thought mat james boy was unbelievable in the movie. And then when i re watched it this week, i was not that into it, if i'm being honest with you. But at the end, the movie lent itself to part of a mythology that he had already established. That really took it over the top for me. It's one of my favorite ones ever did.
