In the past, we've by enlarged use the strategy of learning fror mistakes to stay ahead in the race. But with more powerful technology, like nuclear weapons, synthetic biology, super intelligence, we don't want to learn from mistakes. We instead want to have te safety engineering mentality, where we plan ahead and get things right first time. That might be the only time we have.
