Shifting Sands of Uzbek Politics

This chapter analyzes the changing political landscape in Uzbekistan as the nation prepares for its upcoming elections. With the introduction of live TV debates and some candidate selection, the election signifies a cautious evolution, although all options remain government-sanctioned. Despite superficial reforms, the absence of genuine opposition and skepticism among voters raise questions about the true nature of democratization in the country.
