The Story of Orton Gillingham

In 1975, President Ford signed what is now known as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Orton Gillingham was an approach where students are explicitly and systematically taught how sounds and letters correspond. Fran Bauman got trained in OG in the 1970s; her dream was to bring this approach to kids in public school. Ben Schifrin eventually got a master's degree in special education and started working in public schools.
