The History of the German Army Uniforms

There's these sort of perennial anecdote that Hugo Boss designed the German Army uniforms, you know, where is the truth in that? Oh, well, happily I have the advantage of reading somebody's thesis on that very, very subject. Some things do seem to be put out to manufacturers to devise and some things not. The winter uniform, for example, does seem to have been put out to a private company during the design phase whereas the felt blues doesn't seem to work that way. They seem to produce samples which are then tried and go around various testing and the plans are then devised centrally rather than being that of an individual tailor. Yeah, my assumption is that partly the design work happens
