The opposite of love and hate is indifference, but I'm still mad as hell for whatever happened. Anger is a symptom of broken expectations. When we find ourselves hating people, it's because there is something about them that fills us with this extreme disappointment manifesting itself as I hate you. But if you didn't love them at one time or love them for what they could be, you would never feel that.
