The Profitability of Tobacco

Tobacco has an extra thing over sugar. It's addictive properties, but actually it doesn't sugar is addictive as well. Why is it so profitable? Because it's cheap to grow, but it's expensive to consume. Once you start monopolizing the land with a cash crop, then you very clearly are not growing as much food as you would have before. The more effort that you put into acash crop, the less effort you have to put forth in your actual survival. Or in this case, cases of colonialization, usually it's the survival of the native peoples.
