Is There a Theory of Mind?

The term theory of mind was introduced by primake woodruff 50 years ago. It is the ability to predict and explain behaviour based on other people's mental states. Mental states are, for example, what they want, what they desire, what they hope, what they fear, but also what they believe or assume expect. For young children an understanding of these mental states is difficult to acquire because they have a mind to world direction af fit. The chinpanze does not have the kind of theory of mind that we develop early in age as humans.
