The Strong Cosmic Censorship Hypothesis
The strong cosmic censorship hypothesis is this idea that goes back to Penrose in the 60s and early 70s. That if you just gave me some arbitrarily chosen initial data and tried to evolve it, I might get a Cauchy horizon but there wouldn't be an extendable maximal global evolution. And so maybe it's not going to be the case for generic initial data as we think about quantum gravity. The exciting new work has been on versions of the claim that people have been able to make progress on.
