The Importance of Preclinical Data in Antibiotic Dosing

The exposure for most beta lactams is generally in the range of about 40 to 70% time above the MIC. You essentially plateau out your killing effect for nearly every single beta lactam. Sefid or a call in its PKPD preclinical work was more like 80 to 90%. For newer antibiotics, the preclinical work is a huge part of developing a dosing regimen. That's why you'll see most of these drugs do very well in their face three clinical trials.
