The Great Physician

The Buddha is referred to as the Great Physician. Why? Because he understood with such exactitude and such precision the process by which suffering arises. In one well-known Buddhist chant, the qualities that are honored are the fact that it can be experienced here and now. This is the great gift of the teachings.
