Maimonides is the greatest Jewish philosopher of all time, probably. And it's hard to understand how it could work psychologically and that he would be taking some of his philosophical inspiration from this very hostile group. But I suppose the explanation would just be that it's the intellectual atmosphere that he grew up in. The Al-Mohans didn't invent it from scratch. They were influenced by Islamic trends, Muslim trends in theology, the Asharia, and also were exposed themselves to Islamic philosophy.
