The idea of memberships and subscriptions is to align the incentives of the publisher with the audience. You must publish stuff that your audience care about and value because otherwise they will cancel. So it aligns the incentives of you have to publish stuff that's valuable. That's not clickbait where if your audience clicks on it and they should be surprised by how it's better than what they were expecting, not like a terrible headline that they want to close immediately.
