The Role of Politics in the Economy
The South has a longer history of social movements compared to the North. This is very important in the sense that I think it has given groups and interests in the South a great deal of autonomy compared to that of the North. In the North, what has happened is that since we do not have a movement, and it is often political parties which have taken up issues and concerns, so there is no sort of concerted mobilization over particular interests. And this then, I think, goes on to the role that politics plays in the economy. Let's take that in the next question.
