The attempt to hold down the colonial revolution in Africa had been a complete failure. The ruling class did not have one single, stable armed force on which it could lie in Portugal. It would have been entirely possible to have a peaceful revolution in Portugal. But unfortunately that of course could not take place. And therefore the Portuguese workers will be condemned to an enormous period of suffering.
