Ken Benoit: Algorithms are a form of mediation. Social scientists know enough about the kinds of design features of algorithmic systems to be able to ensure that these work for the benefit of all. We have to come up with rules that are going to help us solve the problem but also understanding how people react to the imposition of rules is a really important thing.
