Magdalena's Weaving - A Short Film

In communist times, you expected to do socialist realism. And even though Magdalena's work is so powerfully evocative of nature, it was just too abstract. In Poland, abstraction was tolerated much more than in other communist countries and Soviet satellites. She happened to make some really important people. They really helped her progress,. Her weaving, for instance, it was vital she had access to a big loom. The works are so gigantic and the lighting and the weight of them suspended from the ceiling. There's so much labor that clearly goes into them and they feel that they're almost still growing in a way.
