During Julian's lifetime, the plague ravaged Norwich every time taking the lives of the most vulnerable. She was curious to know how does God see us? What is the cross about? Are we doomed? And she was also very afraid of death. So when she was 30, she fell ill and her mother assumed that she was succumbing to the plague.
