Aristotle's Politics and the Definition of a State
Aristotelian idea of friendship, filia. When you have two people, it could just be you and me oriented towards some common good together. And when we want to spend time together and help one another out in that good our experiences of friendship are called the highest form of friendship. We don't talk about love in politics all that much, but there is an obvious, or maybe not obvious, but a direct connection between all this Aristotelian stuff that we've been talking about and love. So I'm going to talk a little bit about love and civic friendship because we're accused of streaming across border too often.
