How is it that a religious tradition in which avarice, greed was a deadly sin, gave rise to the most quisitive societies in the history of the world? And how would martin luther like the world he hel if he were here talking with us to day? Luther himself expected the end of the world in his own lifetime. But what he would regard as extraordinary selfishness, self interestedness, competitiveness, disregard the vulnerable and so forth. That's very much in line with his view about human inclinations.
