Leona Ruth Hurwitz Zacharias was the only woman to receive a PhD in anatomy. Her CV shows that within her first decade of marriage, she had earned a master's degree in zoology. She held three jobs simultaneously: Research assistant at the American Museum of Natural History,. anatomy instructor to medical students at Columbia and taught classes at Hunter College.
