Brain waves exist partly because of the limits of wetware. Neurons are noisy, and making them oscillate is a more elegant solution to the noise than letting them have seizures or whatever they would do on their own. Computers have internal clocks, or can synchronize with atomic clocks via the internet. So one possibility is that AI's don't have brain waves because they don't need them. But if brain waves are involved in self-hood, consciousness, and enlightenment, then wouldn't AI that found some other route around this problem miss out on these things? Would this matter?
