The Eruption of Mount Tambora

Lava sprayed up in gigantic fountains before engulfing the entire mountain in flame. The air above the mountain was superheated, carrying a column of ash many miles into the atmosphere. As more air rushed in to fill the void, the infernal vortex sucked in horses and cattle, trees and people. Ash and pumise covered the oceans, eventually drifting two thousand miles away as an impenetrable cloud of dust. Mount tambora's eruption had been a hundred times more violent than that of mount saint helen's in 19 80 or vesuvius which destroyed pompeii in 79.
