Sophie's Choice by William Stearmone
I don't know how you can get closer to a writer than to do something like that. When I did go to school for an MFA, one of the program things we did at the end is we had to write a paper about Sophie's Choice by William Stearmone and I wrote about the Gothic elements of Sophie's Choice. It was this wonderful moment and connection and opportunity, you know, to remember in the end who I am and what I can do and what I aspire to and what's been done. And the real gift of a fiction that's out there for all of us.
