Mitchell: I don't want to jump over a very important part of your book having to do with analytic listening. And let me read a section or two about that. You write quote, psychoanalysis is a peculiar practice in many respects. Perhaps the most peculiar aspect is the way an analyst goes about listening. Mitchell: What our analytic object of interest is, again, sitting in our chair, listening to a patient or perhaps talking to a patient over Zoom or whatever the phone, what are we listening for? But the innkeeper metaphor is powerful for me, and I think compelling,. because it captures one, you know, a human being travels over some distance to get assistance from another human
