Two jewish emigras from nancy, germany, working at the university of birmingham in england. What really frightened them was the discovery that if you had a grape fruit size of uranium, two, three five, you could make an explosion equivalent to a thousand tons of conventional explosive. They wrote a memorandum said that this super bomb would be irresistible because there is no material structure that could resist the force of the let alone the radiation. The project was declared top secret and given the code name tube alloys.
