In 1947, the garrison command was moved to Taiwan. Then in 1949, following the loss of the mainland, it was renamed the Taiwan provincial garrison command. Chunchung Yi ran it back then. Martial law had been declared in the wake of 228 in order to keep a lid on the protests. One of the acts carried out by Wei Dao Ming was to end martial law. This was in May 1947. But now here things were two years later, and once again, martial law returned with no political parties allowed except the KMT.
