If you know somebody who tells you gossip, gossippers are envy types. Enviers will reveal themselves through what we call micro expressions. If someone is suddenly praising you and it doesn't seem justified to anything that you've done or said, they're probably disguising some envy. It's natural for us when we meet someone to be a little wary around them.
