The Origins of Language
I don't think there ever was originally a humanity which fully was itself. Others believe for you, others feel for you and God would have been this very other dimension. There has to be what Jacques Lacan calls 'the big other' The moment we are in language, there is a divine dimension that we presuppose it,. So again, I would say God is originally this very dimension of having a proxy.
