How to Treat a Drowning
During a primary drowning, especially in those young patients who we don't expect there to likely be another medical issue at play, we do not expect to see shockable rhythms. This is not the time for compression only CPR. Some guidelines recommend giving five full rescue breaths before starting compressions in CPR of patients who have drowned. We need to incorporate ventilation and oxygenation into our management.
