In many prisons, there are no sources of official control and governmance. The book idea is to try to say why do these things vary? Why does the degree to which prisoners act in solidarity being very important in some places, but not others? And it turns out, in many times and places, the prisoner produced extra legal governments that takes place outside of state based legal institutions.
