Gesture Studies: How Different Languages Do Storytelling Differently

You can immediately tell when something is situated in the gesture literature because they make people watch a particular Sylvester and Tweety Bird cartoon from Warner Brothers. When you get people to retell it, you get really great gestures out of them. And so I feel when I read a gesture studies paper and they've played this and it doesn't require language. So you can play it to speakers of English or Turkish or Japanese. It's cute how stories like this can also become part of linguistics as a cultural area where you feel part of gesture studies as a culture by seeing the Sylvester & Tweety one.
