The Stiff Upper Lip
It took until the 30s for the stiff upper lip to permeate into pop culture. Dr Thomas Dixon from the centre of emotion told me it was, at least partly, driven by fear. Many commentators in Britain saw the French Revolution as an outpouring of dangerous passion and emotions being let out from the people. And this is seen as a great warning. Do not do this.
