Lactose is found in milk, of course. I don't hear milk and milk but... Thank you. And so since lactose is a disaccharide, we know that it has to be broken down into monosaccharides. It turns out that this happens in our small intestine by a specific enzyme called lactase. So what happens right off the bat is that if lactase isn't able to break down lactose into its two component parts, then you will have undigested lactose. That's the main thing that happens in lactose intolerance or lactose malabsorption. The bacteria in your colon gets super stoked and they will go nuts eating this sugar
