The Effects of Stretching on Muscle Growth

The data is largely coming out of one lab group right now and only for one muscle, the calves. The most recent study by Warnockian colleagues found similar hypertrophy in the calves from stretching an hour a day in a boot. Comparing that to just five sets three times a week of calf raises in the 15 to 20 rep range to failure, similar growth. But I don't think we necessarily need to be at the longest muscle length possible.
