Scaling Up Food Systems?

We grow way too much food for work, but we distribute it in a very unefficient way. Is there a way to scale up these smaller scale things that people can do in their own yards? Or is that just kind of rely back on the same thing we've ned tillireevaluate how much we consume and how we consume it? i don't what the solution is here.
