The Black Sea and the Sea Nariids
The hellespont was a crossing area for armies in antiquity. Alexander the great stopped his entire fleet, and they all sacrificed to the nariids there. The holy place called hieron is somewhere where those entering or leaving the black sea for the bosphorus could actually make their sacrifices on shore. There are very strong currents which might well sweep a ship on to the rocks.
