The more one's sense of self fades away, the more i am a mirror. By becoming the mirror, you become the world. That's the sense of oneness sought after by so many different religious traditions and types of mysticism. The idea that perfectly still waters allow one to see details of one's reflection in the water. But the slightest breeze he writes can both disturb the surface and stir the silt that has sunk to the bottom. Tilting the pan, likewise, can make the water and reflection murky. On the basis of thinking about a mirror, it seems pretty clear there's some evidence that a literal, physical mirror can also have effects on your behaviour.
