What Is Dactylic Hexameter?

The lyre and alos were literature's best friends in the ancient Mediterranean basin. A good deal of Greek poetry, Hesiod's not excluded, was composed in a meter called Dactylic Hexameter. Six hundred years later, when Roman writers began to create satires of epics, they used this same meter.
