Rockmaninoff's Intermezzo
Brahms followed the spirit of an Intermezzo by keeping these pearls short and sweet. This orchestral introduction is Rockmaninoff at his emotional best. The theme goes through three different guises at first. One is simple oboe solo, then a string chorale reminding us of the unconscious or not Russian Orthodox roots of the concerto. Then the strings and winds come together for one more passionate outburst.
