The Importance of Parables in the West
Jesus used parables all the time in the Gospels to bring his points across. Was that a common way of teaching in his day and age? Yes and no. The rabbis often tell stories. And so, yes, it is a classic Jewish thing. But we don't have many examples in Jesus' own day of people doing what he did.
