The Requiem of Verdi's Liberame Domé De Morté Eterna
I once some years ago went as a guest to see a wonderful performance of Verdi's Requiem. At the crucial moment when the Soprano soloist is singing Liberame Domé de Morté Eterna, save me, O Lord, from eternal death, the chorus all around her were lighting their candles. It was an amazingly harrowing tear-jerking moment but I sat there thinking this is wonderful theatre and appalling theology. The story is about the new Jerusalem coming down from heaven to earth so that the dwelling of God is with humans.
